Dartmoor’s newest prehistory

Come for a walk into the Neolithic with archaeologist Alan Endacott who will tell us about about his latest astounding discoveries.

Sunday 25/05/25, 13:30 16:30, Belstone

In Autumn 2024 Dartmoor made international news with the discovery of two new prehistoric stone circles, as well as a fallen dolmen.  They were found by archaeologist Alan Endacott, who was born and raised on Dartmoor, and has spent his life studying and thinking about the moor’s Neolithic people and the monuments they left behind. Join Alan for a walk to see two of his latest finds: the dolmen and one of the stone circles, near the village of Belstone.

These latest discoveries come on top of a stunning find in 2007, when Alan was the first person in a century to find a new stone circle on Dartmoor, the Sittaford stone circle near Grey Wethers. This lends more weight to the intriguing suggestion that there is a mega-circle of stone circles on northern Dartmoor.
